A mental health coordinator (MHC) is a mental health and entertainment professional who operates at the intersection of those two fields, supporting the mental health of the company and the audience. An MHC prepares for and addresses mental health challenges before, during, and after production. An MHC supports responsible and compelling portrayals of mental health and challenging themes. Themes may include trauma, suicide, violent or triggering events, mental illness, substance abuse, intensely emotional scenes, and eating disorders. Support services psychological first aid, individualized training, dramaturgy, assessment, cultural intervention, choreography, and crisis management.
