Zack Johnson is a Salt Lake City–based filmmaker, gaffer, and grip with more than a decade of experience spanning narrative, documentary, and high-end commercial production. Recent film and television credits include The Chosen: Season 6 (Electrician), Homestead: Season 1 (Grip/Electrician), and Slay Day (Grip). Known for his strong technical foundation, collaborative approach, and adaptability across departments, Zack brings a director’s eye and a craftsman’s discipline to every set.
In addition to his narrative work, Zack is an accomplished commercial Director of Photography and producer, with extensive experience leading branded campaigns for major automotive and outdoor clients including Nitto Tire, Nissan, IFINITI, and Singer Vehicle Design. His background in lighting and camera movement informs his commercial direction—balancing visual storytelling with brand identity to produce emotionally resonant, performance-driven visuals.
Zack is comfortable in both union and independent environments, having worked on productions from large-scale sound stages to remote mountain locations throughout Utah and the western United States. He is proficient with Arri, RED, and Sony camera systems, and experienced in lighting design, power distribution, grip rigging, and set electrics. His technical knowledge extends to creative leadership, often bridging the gap between production logistics and artistic vision.
Whether serving as a grip/electrician, DP, or creative collaborator, Zack’s goal is consistent: to elevate every frame through precision, teamwork, and a deep respect for the storytelling process.

On set, Zack brings a calm, solutions-driven approach, drawing from a deep understanding of lighting, camera movement, and storytelling.
He is proficient in a wide range of lighting and camera systems, including Arri, RED, and Sony, and experienced with SkyPanels, M40s, Titan Tubes, and LED soft sources, as well as distro layouts, generator operations, and power management. Zack’s technical expertise in both grip and electric allows him to collaborate effectively with DPs, gaffers, and key grips to achieve consistent, high-quality results on time and under pressure.
Beyond his narrative work, Zack is a seasoned commercial Director of Photography and producer, having led national campaigns for brands such as Nitto Tire, Nissan, Infiniti, Singer Vehicle Design. As Director of the “On the Trail” series for Nitto Tire, he oversaw concept development, cinematography, and post-production—crafting visual narratives that blend authenticity with cinematic polish.
His experience extends from large-scale soundstages to remote outdoor environments, often managing lighting logistics, crew coordination, and client communication simultaneously. Zack is fluent in post-production workflows using DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro.
